Transition to Upper Levels
In the ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) information packages provided by Medical Faculties, the rights granted to graduates after completing their medical education for transitioning to advanced levels are clearly stated. In this context, graduates are entitled to the following rights:
-
Application for Medical Specialization Training: Medical school graduates have the right to specialize in a specific medical field by applying for the Medical Specialization Exam (TUS). TUS is a mandatory exam for specialization training, and successful candidates earn the right to commence specialization training (residency) in their chosen field.
-
Application for Doctoral Programs: Medical school graduates can apply for doctoral programs after taking the Academic Postgraduate Education Exam (ALES). This right is particularly significant for graduates aiming for careers in basic medical sciences, biomedical research, or academic fields. In addition to the ALES score, doctoral applications are carried out in accordance with the criteria set by the universities.
These transition rights enable medical school graduates to advance their education to higher levels. Consequently, graduates obtain the opportunity to pursue careers in both clinical specialization and academic fields. These processes are structured to enhance the quality of medical education in Turkey and ensure compliance with international standards.
